Walking and the Middle Way

August 12 @ 18:00 - August 19 @ 10:00

The Middle Way Society has now run several walking retreats both in the Lake District and here in the Brecon Beacons (Bannau Brycheiniog) National Park. We aim to combine walking in the hills and woods with meditation and the arts, treating walking as a practice that can be both mindful and social, and can put us in touch with the wider environment. This retreat will be jointly led by Robert M Ellis, author of books on the Middle Way, and Barry Daniel, qualified and experienced walking guide. There will be four long walks as well as two rest days focusing on other practices during the course of the week. The walks will take us into the nearby Black Mountain and Carmarthenshire Vans mountain areas, as well as through the woods and fields of the immediate countryside to the medieval castles of Dinefwr and Carreg Cennen. There will also be meditation practice, talks and discussion, music and poetry.

This retreat is a great chance to make and deepen friendships in a context of practice, experience the local environment and history, and learn more about the Middle Way as a universal framework for integrative practice. You will need to be moderately fit, and have an interest in learning meditation and exploring the Middle Way if you have not engaged with them before. Previous experience is not a requirement.
