Mindfulness and Gardening

April 7, 2026 @ 18:00 - April 12, 2026 @ 10:30

At Tirylan House we are developing a forest garden which can provide food for the retreat centre in a sustainable way, based on the interdependent relationships between the plants in the garden. The activity of gardening can be a form of practice, applying mindfulness and creativity, whilst engaging directly with the interface between human needs and other living forms. On this retreat, we will combine gardening as a practice with meditation, arts-based sessions and discussion, under the general heading of Middle Way Practice. For more about the Middle Way as an approach to practice complementary to but broader than Buddhism, please see the Middle Way Society site. There will also be the opportunity to learn more about forest gardening and to appreciate it at first hand.

The retreat will be led by Robert, author of books about Middle Way Philosophy and also forest gardener at Tirylan House. It is open to anyone interested in engaging in the practices of gardening and meditation, and in the Middle Way as a framework for practice.
